The Shape of Rock on the Desert Floor (2017-2018)

These drawings on photo-based prints and cyanotypes are part of a series of work about shapes of the desert. I moved large rocks from the desert floor and photographed the impression left behind. Once the images were printed on paper, I painted over the impression with gouache and watercolor pencil, filling in and building the ground back up. The pink added to many of these is an exaggeration of the soft pink found in the Rhyolite stone that is mined from this area. When one looks closely, the desert is not all brown at all.
